Summer is over. As much as we’d like to have endless fun
in the sun, nature has its way of putting us all back to work. So before the
air starts to get colder, it’s time for us to take our maintenance projects
into fruition. Having a great Real Estate agent is a huge plus when planning to
overhaul our home before putting it in the market. Real Estate agents, the good
ones, understand which particular home fixes take priority, in the process
helping us save time, energy and money.
Here
are the things home sellers should prioritize:
Outdoor painting – Most homeowners don’t have the time or
the resources to invest on full house painting. The best way to deal with this
is to go around the house and start touching up areas which require polishing.
Always remember that peeling pain is undesirable for potential buyers, scrape
and sand the area, prime and paint again for an even texture.
Outdoor Caulking and Sealing – With fall and winter
inevitably coming, leaks or cracks could mean disaster and increased heating
bills. Check the windows inside and out, replace or reattach things which are
seemingly pulling out.
Concrete and asphalt patching – As a rule, asphalt should
be sealed every other year so if you have missed a cycle, it’s time to repair
your driveway with asphalt patching material. Check your concrete walkways for
holes or cracks as they can easily be repaired with epoxy patching material.
Patio and deck maintenance – If you have brick patios,
replace the missing bricks. Level off areas pushed up by tree roots and
re-grout where weeds or any other elements have degraded the hold between
bricks. On wood decks, rotten boards need replacement. They can be painted or
stained as necessary.
Landscaping – A well maintained lawn adds quality to your
home. Keep it clean and attractive. Weeds should be pulled out, rotten fruits
and nuts cleared to avoid infestation and make sure trees and shrubs do no
scrape the side of the house. Ask your Realtor for affordable local landscaping
companies which can offer professional help.
