Downtown Silver Spring Transit Center Delayed Again


The completion of the Silver Spring Transit Center, currently under construction next to the downtown Silver Spring Metro, has been pushed back AGAIN. My neighbors in Rosemary Hills and Rock Creek Forest have been eagerly waiting for this facility that was supposed to open in the Spring of '09.

Delays this time have been blamed on concerns about the facility's long-term structural integrity among other issues. Valid concerns, but we're talking about a project that is opening three years behind schedule and $25 million over budget. Plus, the urban park will not be completed by the opening date, AND the two-tower mixed use development may not happen at all due to the weak economy.

Looks like my neighbors in Rosemary Hills and Rock Creek Forest, as well as those in all the surrounding areas, will have to grin and bear it for a little while longer. Let's just hope there are no more delays...and overruns in the budget.
