What’s On This Month in Bethesda?

Spring is a time of new beginnings, and that’s especially true this month here in Bethesda. While there are always great things to do in the area, this month offers several events to that will jumpstart you into a healthier, happier lifestyle just in time for the warm months ahead.

Part of a healthy lifestyle includes putting quality fuel into your body. The good news is that regular hours have resumed at the Bethesda Central Farm Market located at 7600 Arlington Boulevard at Old Georgetown Road. Stop by on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to find a full marketplace of fresh produce, meat and fish as well as tastings, entertainment and events. The Pike Central Farm Market at 11806 Rockville Pike between Old Georgetown and Montrose Roads will also reopen on April 13th.

Getting active is another important part of healthy living. On April 17th, the YMCA at 9401 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda will host an open house with vendors, wellness assessments and class demonstrations that will offer a whole range of possibilities for you. While you’re there, find out about great summer activities available for the kids, too. The open house is free and open to the public. Call 301-530-3725 for more details.

An active, healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body, and Bethesda has you covered there, too. On the weekend of April 19-22, downtown Bethesda will host its 14th Annual Literary Festival, packing more than 20 events into the weekend including a family story time at the library, an open house at the Writer’s Center, and an exhibit of the art of fables at Studio Neptune. Authors will be on hand throughout the weekend for readings and interviews, and all events are free and open to the public.

Bethesda and its surrounding area is a great place to call home, and I would be honored to help you find the perfect one for you. Open-Air Markets Highlight Local Bethesda Agriculture and Wines

Bethesda wine lovers, take notice! Through the summer and into fall, downtown Frederick, North Beach and Silver Spring will be hosting open-air market events called “Eat-Drink-Go LOCAL!”  The goal of these events is to show off local agriculture and wines by having regional chefs pair the vino with seasonal ingredients from local farmers.

Sponsored by the Maryland Wine Association in collaboration with local farmers, chefs, and wineries, the events are scheduled as follows rain or shine:

  • In Frederick – July 9 at Carroll Creek Park
  • In North Beach – August 13 in Downtown North Beach
  • In Silver Spring – October 22 in Downtown Silver Spring
Each event is free of charge, but you can purchase two different passes to upgrade your experience. Fifteen dollars will get you a “Tasting Pass” which includes a sample of local wine and a wine glass. For $25.00, you can get the “Food and Wine Pairing Pass” which includes pairings of wine and seasonal ingredients, a reusable 6-bottle wine carrier, and the wine and wine glass from the “Tasting Pass.”  There will also be produce markets and chef cooking demonstrations throughout each day.

The two passes can be purchased in advance at www.Marylandwine.com and www.BrownPaperTickets.com. You must be 21 or older to buy. This is just another example of the great local events offered in the Bethesda area.
